What are Kitchen Sink Cookies?

These amazing cookies are called Kitchen Sink cookies because they include “everything but the kitchen sink.” This basically means that the cookies include any random ingredients or treats you can find inside your pantry.

This humorous idiom, whose origins remain unclear except to say it appears to have originated around World War I in the military.

The military slang or phrase "everything but the kitchen sink", or some believe originally was, "everything but the kitchen stove", means almost everything and anything imaginable.

The expression "everything but the kitchen sink" has been used so often that the term "kitchen sink" itself has become a related idiom, and is used as an adjective.

Why are they called Kitchen Sink Cookies?

These easy kitchen sink cookies get their name as a result of including so many treats inside each and every bite. You literally can use everything but the kitchen sink in them and your cookies will taste great.

This is the best kitchen sink cookies recipe out there. I can almost guarantee it!

Here are some of your options. Use no more than 3 cups total for any combination of some or of all of them:

Kitchen Sink Cookie Recipe

I always have believed on some level that more is better with almost anything but especially with food. I love cookies and desserts with lots of "stuff" in them.

Whether you call these Monster Cookies, Everything Cookies, Kitchen Sink Cookies or Junk in Da Trunk Cookies they all mean the same thing. Lots of good treats inside every bite of the cookies.

I originally got this recipe for these cookies from my friend who got the idea from Rachael Ray.This recipe for my Kitchen Sink Cookies is a slightly different version but definitely just a delicious!

You will still find the chocolate chips, butterscotch chips, M&M's and potato chips that make the original great but I have taken out the peanuts and pretzels and included toffee bits and pecans instead.

I thought how could these cookies not be great and I was right as these cookies are totally awesome too.

Kitchen Sink Cookies

Now I make this everything version even more than I make the original. They are definitely a softer and chewier version but both are fabulous in their own right.

I always figure that you can never have too many cookie recipes and the more choices the better! These cookies look just terrific on a sweet tray too.

Whenever I feel like making cookies or something sweet, I like to look at all of the recipes I have, or see what I have in my pantry, and then decide what recipe will satisfy my cravings.

It's funny because when I can't decide on which snack or treat to make I always ask my husband to.He ever seems to have a problem making up his mind about anything food related and I wish I was more like that!

Sometimes I just want something and I can't quite put my finger on what it is. Surely I am not the only one who experiences this sort of thing. Am I?

How to make Easy Kitchen Sink Cookie Recipe

Mix the flour and baking soda together in a small bowl, set aside.

Ideally, using a large bowl and ideally a handheld or stand mixer, beat the butter on medium speed for a minuteor so until smooth.

Add the brown and white sugars and salt.

Beat on medium for 5 minutes, scraping the bowl down occasionally.

Add the egg and vanilla.

Continue to blend.

Add the flour mixture and beat on low, remembering to scrape down the bowl, until just combined - do not over mix.

Add the chocolate chips, butterscotch chips, potato chips, skor or caramel bits, pecans and M&M's.

Stir with a wooden spoon until just blended.

Shape the dough into approximately 2 inch round balls and place on a cookie sheet or large plate.

Cover and refrigerate for at least2 hoursif not overnight.

When ready to bake, preheat the oven to 350°F.

Line two cookie sheets with parchment paper or put cooking spray on a foil lined baking sheet.

Arrange the chilled dough balls about two inches apart on the lined cookie sheets.

These cookies do not spread much at all. Flatten each dough ball slightly with your finger or a fork.

Bake for approximately12-15 minutes, or until the cookies are light golden brown.

Let them cool completely on a wire rack if possible. Do not over cook - these cookies are better underdone than over.

Dust with sifted icing sugar if desired, I never do but I have tried it and it is a nice addition to the cookie and definitely worth a try!
