2008 Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren Crown EditionCoupe
Before McLaren and Mercedes were F1 rivals, they were successful partners. Mercedes held a 40% stake in McLaren, and with Mika Hakkinen took the Drivers' Championship twice in 1998 and 1999, and then again in 2008 with Lewis Hamilton. The SLR, short for Super Light Racing, borrowed from the 1955 300 SLR, debuted in 2003 as a joint project between Mercedes and McLaren. Mercedes introduced the 722 Edition, referring to the no. 722 300 SLR driven to victory by Stirling Moss in the 1955 Mille Miglia, in 2006. 10 of the 150 722 Editions were picked on the assembly line to become the Crown Edition, a 722 specially commissioned by the ruler of a Persian Gulf state. This Crown Edition is finished in white over a red leather interior and has been on static display with the original owner since new. The Stratton Motor Company recently serviced the car to make it road-worthy before it goes to auction at the Goodwood Members Meeting April 14th in England.
